My father just purchased a cherry 993 C2 (above). It's awesome, but I can't get over the fact that the shift knob looks like a diseased foreskin:
For his upcoming birthday, I want to get him the 917 style wood shifter,

The website selling the knob says that it must be modified to fit 993s - something about a flat shaft. It also doesn't offer any particular shift boot and does not seem to include the aluminum momo ring that the above rennlist member used.
If I buy this thing, how will it be attached? Where can I buy a boot (but more importantly that aluminum momo ring)?

I've only replaced one shift knob but it just screwed off.
Edit: just saw that it says it must be modified. I can't help, other than the piece of wisdom posted below
Also all stick shifts look like dicks. It's a fact of life.

Buy some balsa wood, a saw, and some sandpaper. DIY shift knob! :P
As far as I'm aware they should just screw on/off.

I should add that the 993 knobs supposedly press on and pull off

Hmmm, I'm not sure then.

You are one lucky basterd, you know that? The second picture is also from the actual car? Because that interior is looking pretty clean from here.

Second is from google, unfortunately. I haven't seen the interior of dad's car yet.

I made mine....
And then there's the one I made for my Subie... yes, it's dirty, get over it. It took a little more work, I had to machine a flat at 15 degrees, and then drill and tap at that angle.

That's hideous. Whale penis much? I'd change the hell out of it too.
